Hello Everyone and Happy Monday!
With a new season comes a new routine, bringing new questions and challenges. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on what motivates me.
This summer marks my third year as a freelancer, and it has prompted a shift in my thoughts and drive.
Summer One:
I experienced little to no income, stressed about my decision, and hoped September would bring better luck.
Summer Two:
My online work picked up, my client books were full, and I found myself surprisingly busy, which led to a pretty intense burnout.
Summer Three:
Now, I’m intrigued to discover how I can find a balance.
For a while, my motivation was driven by the desire to teach and work to prove that I could. I wanted to show I could pay my bills and rent while doing something I loved. However, my motivation is changing.
I now find myself wanting to create more for myself before creating for others. I am motivated to help clients with last-minute auditions and speeches rather than ongoing projects. I am drawn to collaborating and brainstorming with others rather than working alone at my laptop.
As some of you may have noticed in last week’s newsletter, this shift has led me to say no to opportunities I would have previously jumped at. It’s interesting how quickly motivation can change as you adapt to new desires and ways of living. It’s even more fascinating when you take the time to reflect on how much has changed.
I’d love to hear from you: what motivates you as you enter this new season of work and life? Please share your thoughts below!
Best,
M x
