Hello everyone and happy Monday,
Last week on the journey to work, I listened to a podcast with an ex-doctor who mentioned that statistically, indigestion is more likely to kill you than starvation.
(I did go to Google this and cannot find much to back this up, but let’s take it as it is for the sake of the following).
It got me thinking how similar the sentiment is to my own creative process.
If you can’t tell, I’m a bit of a scrapbooker.
I find one thing, one phrase, one image and I see what happens if I paste that onto an idea I’ve been mulling over.
Which I think is a pretty good way of keeping me inspired, and keeping things curious.
However, in the past, I’ve taken this to mean that I must therefore collect as many bits of scrap as possible and get them stuck down as quickly as possible.
This must lead to more discoveries right?
And this is probably out of partial excitement, throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if it sticks, but it’s also out of the fear that I’ll forget about it and it was a waste of piece of scrap unless I stick it down immediately.
Ultimately, this leads me to what looks like “complete” scrapbooks. But they’re, full of half-baked ideas and philosophies which never truly satisfy me.
They’re over-saturating and far more draining than it is satisfying.
This year, I’m continuing to collect the scraps but I’m being more intentional about where I’m sticking it down.
I've realized that the value lies not in the quantity of scraps I collect but in the quality of the connections I make between them.
Just like the indigestion versus starvation analogy, it's not about overwhelming myself with ideas but about carefully nourishing the ones that truly resonate.
So, this Monday, I encourage you to join me in being intentional about your creative process. Embrace the art of selective pasting rather than haphazardly glueing everything onto the canvas of your mind.
Allow ideas to marinate, develop, and mature before committing them to your creative scrapbook.
In doing so, we might find that our creative endeavours become more refined, more authentic, and ultimately more satisfying.
Wishing you a week filled with intentional creativity and a scrapbook of ideas that truly nourish your creative soul.
Cheers to a purposeful week! 🌟✨
Molly.
